FAUVES SS's classic HOPSACK

Hello.

This is Nakayama from CASANOVA&CO.

Currently, CASANOVA&CO is hosting a DAN TOMIMATSU order event in-store.

As we've been holding this event around this time of year for several years, I'm sure some of our customers feel it's become a seasonal tradition, thinking, "Oh, it's that time of year again."

I believe there's something about events and natural seasonal changes that subtly remind us of how quickly time passes, and they always stir something within us.

For all of you who love clothes, the start of a new season must be exactly that, isn't it?

I am one of those people.

It's always exciting when the store gradually fills up with the new season's clothes.

Among them, the brand mentioned in the title is a piece of clothing that I personally feel a special attachment to when "this time of year comes around again."

FAUVES

's

HOPSACK series.

HOPSACK, characterized by its coarse weave.

As you can see in the photo, light shines through it.

I introduced it last year too, but I still think it's perfect for the upcoming season.

As I mentioned in last year's blog, FAUVES clothing consistently harbors a "seed" of dramatic change.

From the texture of the fabric to the attached buttons and brand tags, every detail is meticulously designed so that the time spent wearing and washing the garment accumulates over time.

If you look back through the articles, you'll find last year's FAUVES blog, and I'd be happy if you could take a look at that as well.

A characteristic of the FAUVES brand is that a few new fabrics are added each season, and with them, a few new styles of clothing.

Therefore, it's not a brand that constantly churns out new designs every year.

I believe that this style gives credibility to what FAUVES creates.

It's not that the clothes are worn for a long period within a year, but rather that to truly appreciate FAUVES, you need to wear them for a year or two, enjoying them over such a timeframe.

Because I believe that such clothes should be "things that don't need to change," it's reassuring, and they should be staple items.

Because they are easy to wash,

they accumulate traces of wear,

and the design can be incorporated as a basic item.

Don't you feel like they'll fit right into your daily life?

Although they look basic, a very niche attention to detail is evident, and they are finished as quite interesting clothes.

This year, we have three types of the HOPSACK series.

One type is handled for the first time.

Two types are re-ordered.

First, let's start with the one making its debut in our store.

FAUVES

NUVO

color _ Black

size _ 3,4,5

This would be FAUVES's version of jeans.

Among the brand's pants, this one has a slender silhouette and a relatively compact fit around the hips.

As you saw in the fabric photo at the beginning, it's made with a loosely woven structure to the point where light passes through, but it doesn't appear obviously sheer when worn.

Still, thanks to the coarse weave, the air inside the fabric feels refreshing.

At first glance, these pants resemble slim-fit jeans.

But that's just the appearance.

The wind passes through the gaps in the fabric, carrying away moisture and stuffiness inside the pants, making them truly summer pants.

As the temperatures rise, I also enjoy wearing sheer shirts and summer knits to fully embrace the unique enjoyment of summer clothing.

However, there are times when I feel more comfortable with less of that overtly "summery" sheerness.

Especially with basic items.

Items that become basic earn that position because they possess the trifecta of comfort, easy handling, and looking good when worn.

In addition to that, something that looks familiar but is unlike anything you've seen before.

That's when even basic things can be exciting.

FAUVES clothing is precisely that.

Even the HOPSACK fabric alone is a good material suitable for the season, but what gives it even more depth is FAUVES quality.

If you look closely at the fabric photo from the beginning again...

You can visually see that at least two colors of thread are used in the fabric.

This is so that, through washing, the individual threads loosen, and the colors blend together to create a unique change.

In other words, the time spent wearing it is meant to be etched into the fabric.

It's truly an unknown transformation.

I don't think you can even imagine what kind of positive changes HOPSACK would undergo; it's almost like there's no baseline for it.

The very fact that they are pursuing such unknown territory is unprecedented, and

They spend time creating something satisfactory, and they only release products when the fabric, in its new state before changing, shows a "this is it!!" kind of heartwarming transformation.

FAUVES is doing something quite avant-garde.

If they created it with the fabric in that "this is it!!" state, you would directly feel the quality of the fabric, wouldn't you?

No, that very moment, that very experience of feeling "this is it!!" is imbued in the clothing.

FAUVES is a brand that creates clothing that delivers an emotional experience.

If you're interested, I really want you to try them on.

I think you'll feel that they're really good.

The brand's playful touches in various parts of the clothing seem to resonate with some people.

Although they are jeans, since the fabric is HOPSACK, there's no selvage, but they've changed the color of the overlock stitching on the outseam.

The chain stitching on the hem is a different thread color, isn't it?

They deliberately changed it.

Invisible style.

For NUVO, I felt the silhouette had a considerable masculinity, so while it appears to be a classic style at first glance, for a supremely comfortable and luxurious style that only the wearer truly understands, I paired it with a nonnotte wool T-shirt and a HERILL silk cardigan for the top.

A pair of pants with a familiar shape,

The feel of handling remains the same,

It just became a fabric that matches the season better.

I think it might be easier to understand if you think of it that way.

Next up is this item, which also appeared last year.

FAUVES

RANCH

color _ Beige

size _ 2,3,4

This is a brighter shade of HOPSACK than the NUVO we just saw.

A characteristic of light-colored HOPSACK is that it develops white highlights as it continues to be worn.

When new, it appears rather flat, but I believe the changes it undergoes from this point will be truly dramatic.

The appearance completely changes between new and well-worn items.

It's like it gains strength, or perhaps presence, or even develops a sort of mellow character, like a person aging gracefully.

Compared to NUVO, RANCH has a more relaxed overall balance and a slightly straighter silhouette.

Compared to NUVO, it's a bit wider, so it feels like a stylish pair of pants.

My feeling is that those who like Euro vintage might be more drawn to RANCH.

To add a touch of masculinity and a dandy feel to a slightly stylish taste, I chose a Yamauchi field jacket for the top.

Lastly, here's the only HOPSACK top.

It's the same fabric as RANCH.

FAUVES

C.P.O

color _ Beige

size _ 5,7

For those who love vintage, you've probably heard of C.P.O.

While C.P.O. was originally created as a jacket by the U.S. Navy for warmth, FAUVES's HOPSACK C.P.O. has completely opposite seasonal and functional intentions.

While maintaining the general outward appearance, it's a C.P.O. made of HOPSACK, which offers absolutely no warmth and is airy.

The original C.P.O. is a jacket, but FAUVES's C.P.O. feels closer to a shirt in terms of comfort.

I believe it's significantly cooler than linen jackets.

All photos are of new, unwashed items.

From this point, through wear and washing, they will gradually change, and the appearance of the clothes will transform.

As for this fabric...

It uses beige thread and a yellowish-gold thread.

How will this thread usage change?

The wash wrinkles will be etched in, the fabric will loosen, the tension will disappear, and the HOPSACK will transform into its original softness and crispness.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Fukuhara's actual product, and it had the "weight" of something that had aged, with an old-fashioned appearance.

And speaking of FAUVES tops, the way the shoulder area conforms to the body greatly impacts comfort.

A fit that only Mr. Fukuhara, who has been relentlessly pursuing perfection with OLDE HOMESTEADER for many years, can create.

FAUVES tops will improve in fit right from the first wear.

The fabric doesn't just age; it also adapts to your specific body.

Even when new, the shoulder width allows for some looseness in the embrace, but this is not yet its final form.

From this point, the fabric will learn the shape of your shoulders, and a part where the curve of your shoulders "fits" will emerge.

If the fabric stretches or takes on strange shapes, the clothing's silhouette can appear to collapse, but FAUVES blends in perfectly.

Therefore, I highly recommend wearing and washing it often.

I think the most comfortable way to fully enjoy the C.P.O. is to wear it loosely like a shirt, with a tank top or sleeveless top underneath.

A rolled-up style would look incredibly cool, I think.

The clothes from FAUVES bring awareness and感動 (deep emotion) to our relationship with clothing, something that inevitably happens as long as we own clothes—when we wear them, and when we wash them.

The key to enjoying the unique changes that only FAUVES can express is to experiment with different washing methods.

Hand washing is, of course, perfectly fine.

The fabric stiffens when it absorbs water, but it returns to its original state when dry.

When using a washing machine, turn the garment inside out, fold it in half or in thirds, and place it in a laundry net with towels or other items to prevent friction on the fabric's surface.

It's perfect if you also put in other laundry items to prevent them from becoming unbalanced in the washing tub.

Finally, while shrinkage will occur after washing, because designer Fukuhara has been making cotton clothes for many years, the initial sizing is designed with the fully shrunk size in mind, so I believe the fit will be perfect.

Here's a guide to the approximate shrinkage from the new state.

C.P.O

Length approx. -3cm

Body width approx. -2.5cm

Sleeve length approx. -2.5cm

Neck approx. -2cm

NUVO, RANCH

Waist approx. -4cm (returns close to original dimensions after wearing)

Total length approx. -6cm

Knee, hem approx. -1cm
